Experimental Archaeology
Although there are complete chariot remains from the tombs, it does not mean experts can use them to test it out on field. These evidences are old and probably not in function and moreover, they are important antiquities to be preserved. However, they could be used for understanding the structure of the chariot and this could lead to creation of replica for test.
This documentary by NOVA is about their experimental archaeology of constructing and testing a replica of the Ancient Egyptian Chariot. It is useful for understanding some basic knowledge of Ancient Egyptian chariot including its history and structure.
The experiment is well composed. Experts in this program uses various empirical evidence including the actual object from the tomb and scenes on wall. They did face a struggle when making the harness but through the trials and errors they did solve that problem.
In the end, they were able to observe many things from this experiment. Firstly, the chariot was able to run at a speed close to riding on the horse back. Secondly, it was able to run on various type of road including hard ground, soft sand, and wet areas. Thirdly, it was extremely stable as an archer platform.
